UEFA Champions League: CSKA Moscow 2 - 1 Besiktas

Group A

FC Girondins de Bordeaux (10 points) against Juventus (8 points)

Bordeaux and Juventus played to a draw last time they met. Iaquinta and Plasil each scored for their respective teams to force the draw.

Juventus failed to prevent the Plasil led offensive attack. Buffon was great for Juventus, stopping an early strike from Fernando.

Bordeaux is coming off a momentous win over FC Bayern Munchen while Juventus escaped Maccabi Haifa.

Bodeaux will cement its status a top Group A with a victory over Juventus

Group A

FC Bayern Munchen (4 points) against Maccabi Haifa FC (0 points)

Maccabi finds itself at the bottom of the group standings while Munchen is looking to fight its way to the top.

Munchen destroyed Maccabi in their first meeting. Muller had two goals and Van Buyten scored one to lead Munchen.

Maccabi played great defense in the first half until Van Buyten smashed his way past the line in the 64th minute. Maccabi completely lost focus and concentration on the defensive end late in the game.

Munchen is fresh off a loss against Bordeaux while Maccabi is still searching for its first win.

Maccabi will continue its losing streak and pick up its fifth straight loss at the hands of Munchen.

Group B

PFC CSKA Moskva (4 points) against VfL Wolfsburg (7 points)

Moskva is still gloating from their recent draw with group-leading Manchester United. Meanwhile, Wolfsburg destroyed Besiktas last game 3-0.

The last time these two met, Wolfburg pulled out the 3-1 victory. Wolfburg was already up by two goals until Dzagoev scored in the 76th minute. Grafite had a hat-trick for Wolfburg.

Wolfburg will continue its dominance over Moskva despite Moskva’s sky high confidence after deadlocking with Manchester United.

Group B

Manchester United FC (10 point) against Besiktas JK (1 point)

Manchester United will be looking for redemption after letting Moskva pull out the draw. Besiktas will try to climb out of the cellar after losing to Wolfsburg last game.

Manchester United barely won the first time these two teams played each other. Scholes scored late in the second half for Man U. Valencia’s aggressive play started the frantic attack that led to Scholes’ goal.

Unlike the first game, Manchester will be much more dominant against Besiktas.

Group C

Real Madrid FC (7 points) against FC Zurich (3 points)

Real Madrid is tied with Milan for the top spot. Madrid has beaten Zurich and Marseille but can’t seem to overcome Milan. Ironically, the only team that has beaten Milan is Zurich. Zurich scored early against Milan and held them off.

Madrid beat Zurich 5-2 the last time they played. Ronaldo had two goals, Gonzalez, Higuain and Guti each scored one. Zurich tried to mount a comeback but Madrid’s early offense was tough to overcome.

Madrid is the favorite heading into this match but Zurich is prime for an upset victory.

Group C

AC Milan (7 points) against Olympique de Marseille (6 points)

Milan still doesn’t have that killer instinct that separates champions from contenders. They need to develop that if they expect to win it all this year.

Inzaghi scored late to break the deadlock against Marseille in their first game against each other. Heinze tried to pull Marseille back in the game with a goal of his own in the 49th minute but Milan turned on the D in the second half.

Don’t be surprised if Marseille picks up the win against Milan.

Group D

FC Porto (9 points) against Chelsea (10 points)

All signs point to a great match between these two teams. In their first match, Anelka filled in nicely for the injured Drogba. He finally broke through and scored early in the second half.

Porto played physical against Chelsea and it seemed to work until Anelka broke free. They should use the same strategy against Chelsea in their second meeting.

With Drogba back, Chelsea will win more convincingly against Porto.

Group D

APOEL FC (1 point) against Club Atlético de Madrid (2 points)

These two teams are battling for anything except what’s left of their pride. Atletico does have something going for them after forcing a draw with Chelsea In their last outing. APOEL is still seeking its first victory.

Both teams were deadlocked at zero in their first game against each other.

Atletico will win this game mainly because of their confidence after their game with Chelsea.
